For this document I’m going to install 3DS Max Design as a trial

On the Product Information page, you can choose the license model, and enter the serial number and activation code. On the License Agreement page select “I Accept” and then “Next” If you are running the self-extracting zip, the setup page will launch automatically, if you’ve copied the install files or canceled it previously go to the install folder and launch Setup.exe We’ll be installing 3DS Max Design as a trial, Backburner can utilize licensed or unlicensed versions of 3DS max (Design) for network rendering.Īfter you’ve downloaded 3DS Max, run the self-extracting zip, which unzips to C:\Autodesk\ Autodesk_3ds_Max_Design_2015_EFGJKS_Win_64bit_dlm by default In this tutorial I’m using 3DS Max design which you can download from Autodesk if you don’t have the media. (Please note, as of the 2016 product release Autodesk has discontinued 3DS Max Design, and folded all of the functionality into 3DS Max 2016.) For these settings please refer to Autodesk 3DS Max Help page for Network Rendering:Manager:General Propertiesīackburner Render Node Installation and setupįor the Render Node we’ll need to install both 3DS Max and backburner, this can be done by simply installing 3DS Max with Backburner as part of the installation. If you want to change the settings for the backburner Manager then go to the “Edit” drop down menu and select “General Settings”. With the Backburner Manager Started you can continue on to setting up the render nodes, or you can change the settings for the Manager. In Apps View scroll until you get to the Autodesk Groupings, look for “Autodesk Backburner 2015” then launch “Manager”. In Windows 8, 8.1 or Server 2012, Server 2012 R2 go to the “Start Screen” then select the arrow in the lower left corner of the screen to see the loaded applications in Apps View.
In Windows 7, or Windows server 2008, Server 2008 R2 go to the Windows start menu then go to “All Programs” then to Autodesk, then “Autodesk Backburner 2015” then launch “Manager”. When the Install is finished select the Finish button in the install wizard. You are then prompted with a final chance to alter any installation settings, to proceed with the installation select Install If you don’t plan to make any changes select Next You are then prompted to change the Backburner Installation location, the default is C:\Program Files (x86)\Autodesk\Backburner. In the Autodesk Backburner 2015 Installshield Wizard select Next

Since the server will not be joining in as part of the render node team, I’m installing Backburner by itself. There are multiple ways to configure Backburner, but I’m going to concentrate on installing Backburner Manager on a dedicated server, Backburner Server on the Render Node and using Backburner Monitor on a user computer. Autodesk backburner can also be downloaded individually for installing the Backburner Manager without 3DSMax

Backburner is a tool Autodesk provides for managing Network or distributed rendering where you create a scene to render 1 or more computers (also known as nodes) to complete the render.īackburner is composed of 3 software components, the Backburner Server which runs the 3DSmax service on the nodes, the Backburner Manager which handles the render job queue and the Backburner Monitor which allows you to control the job queue.īackburner is included as part of the Autodesk 3DSMax, 3DS Max Design, 3DS Max Entertainment Creation Suite Standard, Entertainment Suite Ultimate and3DS Max with Softimage installs.
